Barclays is undergoing refurbishment of the entire branch network in the UK.

The building at Piccadilly Circus was acquired and has been developed into a site covering 8,000 square feet of retail space over three floors.

Located underneath the iconic Piccadilly lights, Barclays have developed the first ‘brand concept’ bank branch in the UK.  Mike Amato, chief distribution and product officer for Barclays, said: “This is the first time that a bank has opened a store such as this. We have taken inspiration from retailers such as Apple and Nike and developed a space that attracts and engages individuals while conveying what the Barclays brand represents.”

The main banking hall sports circular ceiling coffers. Concealed within a lighting trough, halo effect lighting, which is reflected by a cove. A huge interactive screen displays the images of passers by using face recognition technology and cameras, creating thought bubbles containing random messages. The walls surrounding the screen are clad in fluted plaster panels made of GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum). The walls above the bank of ATM machines echoes the curves of the ceiling coffers. The fluted wall panels sweep around to the front entrance.

The basement and first floor continue the theme with circular ceiling coffers which have produced fantastic results in a contemporary design by using imaginative simple mouldings.
