Design and Consultancy/ The Turret RoomSet in the Hertfordshire countryside this imaginative space was created to provide a private tranquil space with focus on the sky. This modern Turret constructed of a steel frame, insulated and covered in mesh with a coloured external render, is attached to the corner of this property. The tall slim window gives glimpses of the garden whilst maintaining the privacy of its occupant. The wide opening in the conical structure leans in giving an increased illusion of being within a cone. The internal walls were similarly covered in mesh and three coats of plaster. The main feature of the Turret Room being the circular window is again an optical illusion. Although the opening is circular, the window is tilted through 45 degrees thus changing the shape to an ellipse. Once the setting out was complete templates of the curved walls were taken. In the workshop cost effective plaster moulds were created from zinc templates run with a trammel to create a reverse mould. Being symmetrical, two casts were taken from the mould and installed. The joints between each half reinforced and flush filled The Turret Room allowed Revival to demonstrate that GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum) can be used to create wide plain areas in a contemporary style with incredible sharpness and accuracy. |
